Career Technical Education Certificate Program Steps

Step 1. Enroll and register online to attend a FREE, Required Information Session. At the information session you will learn about the programs prerequisites, registration fees, externship opportunities, job prospects, and more. The schedule for the information session for each certificate program can be found to the left. Allow 1 hour for this step.

Step 2. Attend an enrollment session immediately following the Information Session to complete the required *English and *Math exam at the Gothard campus after you attend the Information Session or you may choose to complete this step at a later date and time (See options on page 5).

Enrollment/ Testing Schedule at the HBAS Gothard Campus. There will be NO LATE ADMITTANCE and there is limited space available so please arrive before the start times listed below.

Start time 9:30am. Allow 2.5 hours to complete this step.

*A student who fails one or both entrance exams will be directed to enroll in free remediation classes to prepare them to re-take and pass the exams.

Step 3. Attend a required Orientation Session at 12:30pm on the same Friday you complete Step 1 and Step 2 or you may choose to complete this step at a later date and time (See page 5 of the catalog for options).

Step 4. Register for the Career Readiness Class. You may also choose to register for an additional required class at this time.

The simplest way to get started in one of the certificate programs is to complete all 4 steps in one day by attending an information meeting on a Friday (see dates to the left) from 8:30am-9:30am, complete the required testing in room C123 from 9:30am-12:00pm, and attend an Orientation Session in room C116 from 12:30pm-2:00pm.

Step 5. Participate in the annual Pinning Ceremony!

*If you finish your course work in the summer, fall, or winter, you will be eligible to participate in the ceremony immediately following the completion of your last class only.

Externship Information

  • If you successfully complete your program’s required course work with a passing grade of 80% or higher, you pass the National/State certifying exam and with your instructor’s recommendation, you may be offered the opportunity to enroll in the externship program.

Have you already taken classes somewhere else?

  • If you have already taken a course and can provide a certificate of course completion or an official transcript from an accredited school within the last two years, you may speak to an instructor about challenging the course. If the instructor verifies you qualify to challenge, you may challenge the exam ONCE and ONLY ONCE. The exam must be taken on or before start date of the class. The Challenge Exam Fee of $20 will apply. If you successfully challenge the exam, you will receive a “CT” on your transcript. The passing standard is 80% or higher. If you do not meet the passing standard, you are required to enroll in and complete the whole course in the usual manner. The challenge exam fee will not be applied toward the cost of you enrolling in the course should you not pass the exam at 80% accuracy. You may not use any reference materials when challenging the exam and you will not be provided any study materials prior to the exam.
