HBAS offers 9 Certificate Programs: Accounting Clerk, Business Information Worker, Medical Assistant, Medical Billing/Coding, Pharmacy Technician, Administrative Assistant, Data Entry Clerk, Paraprofessional and Bus Driver. If you are interested in one or more of our programs, sign up online to attend a FREE information session. The schedule and more information for the information sessions can be found below.

Career Technical Education Certificate Program Steps

Step 1. Enroll and register online to attend a FREE, REQUIRED Information Session. Information Sessions are online. At the Information Session, you will learn about the career programs prerequisites, externship opportunities, job prospects, and more. You will also need to complete the required math and reading assessmentsAllow 2 hours for this step. A link will be emailed to you before your registration date.
 
Due to high demand, students may only take ONE free program.

MATH & READING ASSESSMENTS CURRENTLY VIA MICROSOFT TEAMS AT THE END OF INFO SESSIONS
 
The CTE Information Session scheduled dates are as follows: 
9:00am - 11:00am Fridays VIA MICROSOFT TEAMS
6:00pm - 8:00pm Tuesdays VIA MICROSOFT TEAMS

Step 2. Register for CTE Class. Once you have completed an Information Session and passed both assessments, you are eligible to enroll in a CTE program. You must come to our Gothard location in person to register for your first career classes. After initial enrollment, you may call or come in person to register for additional CTE classes. 

Please note: All students must be 18 years of age or older, possess a high school diploma or GED, attend a required information session prior to being accepted into a certificate program, and pass an Reading and Math exam (remediation classes are available if needed). Students must bring their diploma or equivalent to our office the first time they register for classes. Pharmacy Tech students must have a certified copy of their high school diploma.

*If you finish your course work in the summer, fall, or winter you will be eligible to participate in the June Pinning  Ceremony immediately following the completion of your last class only.
 
Externship Information
  • If you successfully complete all required course work with a passing grade of 80% or higher and you pass the National/State certifying exam you will qualify to enroll in the corresponding externship program.
 
Have you already taken classes somewhere else?
  • If you have already taken a Medical Terminology course and/or Microsoft Word/Excel and can provide a certificate of course completion or an official transcript from an accredited school within the last two years, you may speak to an instructor about challenging the course. If the instructor verifies you qualify to challenge, you may challenge the exam ONCE and ONLY ONCE. The exam must be taken on or before the start date of the class. The Challenge Exam Fee of $25 will apply. If you successfully challenge the exam, you will receive a “CT” on your transcript. The passing standard is 80% or higher. If you do not meet the passing standard, you are required to enroll in and complete the whole course in the usual manner. The challenge exam fee will not be applied toward the cost of you enrolling in the course should you not pass the exam at 80% accuracy. You may not use any reference materials when challenging the exam and you will not be provided any study materials prior to the exam.
