Course Description:   An overview course that focuses on the fundamental concepts, terminology and functions of the electronic health record. The course will emphasize the principles of creating and maintaining electronic health records in acute and ambulatory health settings. EHR history, benefits, standards, functionality, security, and confidentially in a variety healthcare settings will be examined. Students will have hands-on training using the common functions of an electronic health record system. Course work is designed to help the student understand the language used in the medical field as well as the need for privacy related to patient information in records and the medical field in general (HIPAA).
