We recently caught up with HBAS Assistant Principal Jason Ross to get the scoop on the new Paraprofessional Certificate Program launching this spring.
Paraprofessionals are an integral part of both special education and the general education classroom. In our new Paraprofessional Certificate Program, students will be introduced to the continuum of programs offered within the Huntington Beach Union High School District.
Assistant Principal Ross explained, “just like the rest of the economy, school districts are struggling to hire workers at all levels. Our district, and those around us, hire hundreds of paraprofessionals every year. There is always a shortage of aides, and we are hoping that this program helps connect workers with the jobs.”
On the final day of class, students will be able to take the HBUHSD Paraprofessional Exam. With the HBUHSD HR Department on site, students will have the opportunity to turn in their resumes. Students who successfully complete this program have a great chance of being hired at HBUHSD or our surrounding districts.
Assistant Principal Ross recommends the program to “anyone looking for a job with solid pay and the opportunity to give back to their community by helping kids.” It’s a great first step into the education field.
